The 2018 Subaru Love Promise Customer and Community Commitment Award

What is the Subaru Love Promise?

Subaru and our retailers believe in making the world a better place and the Subaru Love Promise is our vision of respecting all people. This is our commitment to show love and respect to our customers and to work to make a positive impact in the world.

The Subaru Love Promise Community Commitment

We believe in being a positive force in something bigger. And it all starts right here in our community. Not just by our donations, but by our actions.

That's why we stay true to our Love Promise Community Commitment by partnering with a wide variety of community nonprofits and charities.

Every year, we join hands with our owners in the "Share the Love" event, giving back to our community-a community that's given so much to us.

So, every day, we strive to ensure our love is felt not just by our customers, but by all in our community. We do this because we feel it is the right thing to do.

We are proud to participate in the Love Promise Community Commitment. We're grateful, not only to be a part of our community, but to serve and support the causes and passions that are closest to our hearts, right here in our neighborhood.

All of the organizations we support have one thing in common: the unwavering dedication to improve the world and the lives of its people.

Love Promise Stories from Sommer's Subaru

Successful Students Make Successful Employees!  –  Marlene M

Portal, inc works with local school districts improving community employment outcomes for high school students with intellectual/developmental disabilities transitioning from school to adult life. Statewide, only 16% of youth/young adults (ages 18-24) graduate from high school with paid job experience. Yet, for individuals with disabilities, having at least one job while in high school is shown to double the chance of obtaining paid employment as an adult. Thanks to Subaru's Share the Love Event and our partnership with Sommer's Subaru, we initiated the "Community Connections/Employment Skills" program - providing community- and employment-based experiences while teaching soft skills employers look for when hiring, and also helping students network with community members and business personnel. In addition, students attend the Self-Determination Conference held annually in the Wisconsin Dells. Having a job within six months following high school graduation is the ultimate goal for each person participating. On behalf of all of us at Portal, inc, including the 14 individuals involved in the new employment-focused program, thank you for sharing in our success for the future! Jennifer is a community-minded self-advocate who strives for personal success and to be respected in her community. Last year, Jennifer educated herself about the voting process and petitioned the Ozaukee County court system to reinstate her voting rights. Today, Jennifer works with two employers! She has a job with an employer in Port Washington, doing clerical work, and a Mequon based employer doing production packaging. She is valued and appreciated by both employers. A member of People First, Jennifer is a role model for other self-advocates. She is also a member of the Kiwanis Aktion Club giving back "in-service" to others in her community. All of these opportunities, the "Community Connections and Employment Skills" program, as well as the three-day self-determination conference have supported Jen to be the responsible adult that she is today, regardless of her disability. Many thanks to Subaru for making a difference!

Investing in the Future!  –  Nicole B

Investing in the Future!

The 2016 Share the Love Event made an investment in the future of children facing adversity in Ozaukee County. Their generous contribution supports one-on-one mentoring relationships built on friendship and trust that blossoms into a world of unlimited potential. According to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ozaukee's (BBBSOZ) Executive Director, Nicole Bulow, "Subaru’s investment in programs for children who need it the most is an inspiring example of corporate philanthropy at its best. We know that children who are paired with Big Brothers/Sisters show remarkable improvements in their personal and academic lives. We applaud Sommer’s Subaru, Subaru of America, and their customers for their focus on the future…our children.” Each year BBBSOZ provides mentoring to over 150 children in Ozaukee County, just like Little Brother Nathaniel. Nathaniel was matched with Dwight in 2011. Dwight shared his passion for his faith, introduced Nathaniel to new people and activities, and has taught Nathaniel the value of helping others and giving back to the community. Dwight also assisted Nathaniel with preparing for and finding his first job and exploring future career options. With the support of his mother and Dwight’s extra guidance, Nathaniel graduated from High School in 2017 and is pursuing his interest in auto mechanics. By supporting one child, one mentor, and one friendship at a time, Subaru’s invests in brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities throughout our county.

The programs encourage creativity and problem solving skills in the leaders of tomorrow.

American Cancer Society Bark For Life Fundraiser  –  American Cancer Society B

American Cancer Society Bark For Life Fundraiser

The American Cancer Society Bark For Life is a fundraising event honoring the lifelong contributions of our Canine Caregivers. It presents an opportunity for people to be empowered through their canine companion partnerships and to contribute to cancer cures through the mission of the American Cancer Society. Sommer's Subaru and the American Cancer Society believe that canine companions demonstrate unconditional love, joy, security, compassion, and no judgment of cancer survivors' abilities or appearances. The American Cancer Society Bark For Life is an irresistible way to partner with your best friend, smile, and make new friends - canine and human. Sommer's loves our furry friends just as we love this fundraising opportunity. As always, Sommer's is a pet-friendly dealership, and we welcome your pets to come and brighten everyone's day!

"Share The Love" campaign helps benefit Wisconsin State Park Association  –  Wisconsin State P

During the "Share the Love" event in December of 2013, Sommer's Subaru chose to team up with the Wisconsin State Park Association. For every new Subaru sold, Sommer's and Subaru contributed a set dollar amount to the Wisconsin State Parks. By the end of the month-long campaign, the total amount donated came to over $6,000! Sommer's and the Wisconsin State Parks were extremely pleased, and we have to thank our customers for the tremendous results. Wally Sommer was quoted as saying, "We chose to partner with the State Parks, because we know how important they are to the community, especially Subaru owners." He went on, "Wisconsin is a great place to live for a number of reasons, one of them being the fantastic outdoor activities that we are able to take advantage of in our parks. The parks require financial assistance to operate, and we thank our customers for helping us help our community."

September walk benefits Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure

Almost everyone has been affected by breast cancer at some point in their lives, whether they themselves have been diagnosed, or they have watched a family member or friend battle breast cancer. Sommer's Subaru continues to be a part of the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure every September in Milwaukee. We raise money for a cause that is near and dear to everyone. Our employees, family members, and friends walk the streets of downtown Milwaukee with fellow supporters, breast cancer survivors, and families or loved ones that have lost someone to this terrible illness. It's one of the many ways Sommer's Subaru is hoping to make a difference in the community.

Sommer's Subaru Blood Drive with Blood Center of Wisconsin  –  Blood Center o

Sommer's Subaru Blood Drive with Blood Center of Wisconsin

It's easy to become a blood donor, and it's even easier for our employees and customers to donate at the Sommer's Subaru Blood Drive. Blood is the essence of life and to give it selflessly can make you feel more connected to your community and to the world around you. It's a fulfilling, powerful, and enriching experience to know that your donation could save lives. Unfortunately, fewer than 5 percent of people who are eligible to donate actually do. Imagine the lives that could be touched by your gift. It's a quick, simple, and amazing way to give back to the community. Sommer's Subaru hopes to help this cause with our blood drive that benefits the Blood Center of Wisconsin.

Pack the Outback Challenge!  –  Make-A-Wish F

Pack the Outback Challenge!

Every year, Sommer's Subaru takes pride in running a toy drive for the local Make-a-Wish Foundation chapter. We call it the "Pack the Outback Challenge!" This heart-warming activity brings the Sommer's family together to donate toys to children in need. Sommer's Subaru starts the donation by filling a Subaru Outback with children's toys, and the employees and customers are invited to join in the donation as well. The challenge is every December for anyone interested in donating in the future! By the end of the challenge, we always have an Outback full of toys. This simple, but powerful belief inspired the founding of Make-A-Wishÿ® and drives everything we do." - Make-A-Wish Foundation
